The 2010 Infiniti G37 has done what most successful models do – keep changes to the minimum. While 2010 did see the G37 coupe recieve some minor updates (a new, sportier front grill, bumpers, and headlights), some new metallic (aluminum Shodo trim) interior pieces, and a new, mostly cosmetic 20th anniversary edition.

Starting at the heart of the beast, its easy to see why Infiniti has chosen to keep the 2010 G37 coupe largely unchanged. With a more than potent 3.7 liter V6 engine putting down 328 horsepower and 270 ft-lbs of torque to the pavement via the standard 7 speed auto gearbox – complete with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters and rev-matching downshifts – to the rear wheels in all but the elusive Sport 6MT (which gets a manual six speed gearbox as well as a host of other sport amenities – wheel get into that later) and the G37x, which instead of being rear wheel drive gets Infiniti’s newer all wheel drive system. When equipped with the seven speed sequential automatic gearbox, which surprisingly for us we quite like, the 2010 Infiniti G37 coupe runs from 0-60mph in just 5.4 seconds. The heavier models such as the hard top cabriolet and the G37x all wheel drive go slightly slower – 6 seconds flat for the vert and 5.6 seconds for the AWD model. As an added bonus, the 2010 G37 coupe gets surprisingly decent fuel economy, with an EPA estimated 18mpg city and 26mph highway. Again, the slightly heavier variants (G37x and Cabriolet, as well as the 6MT sport) get slightly less effecient numbers, all lurking around 18mpg city and 25mpg highway. For all the power and luxury you get, this is a fair tradeoff in our opinion.

For 2010, Infiniti has chosen to make it slightly harder to keep track of which models are which, with a line up that includes the base coupe, the Journey, the X AWD coupe, the Sport, and the 20th Anniversary Edition. While all models keep the same 3.7 liter V6 engine and 18 inch alluminum alloy wheels, keyless ignition, auto climate control, and leather upholstery, as well as a six speaker Bose surround system wtih CD/MP3 and Aux input jacks, as well as the standard power accessories, the higher up the model food chain you go, the more options you get.

The 2010 Infiniti G37 Coupe Journey (The ‘Luxury’ version) gets a host of creature comforts such as dual zone climate control, power front passenger seating, and a six disc CD changer. Opting for the Sport 6MT trim gets you the a fore mentioned six speed manual transmission, 19 inch alluminum wheels wrapped in sport tires, sportier front and rear fascias, and a limited slip differential in addition to beefier, sporty suspension pieces, sport seats with side and hip bolsters, and bigger brakes.

Finally, we have the 20th Anniversary G Coupe, which instantly adds in the Premium and Navigation packages (stand alone options on all other models except the base, which can’t get either). The coupe version also gets the 4 wheel active steering and all get a special graphite gray exterior color to complement the unique interior trim and red leather seating, as well as the sport front and rear fascias.

For packages, you can opt for the Navigation package – which obviously includes a hard drive based navigation system – that adds 9GB of digital music storage as well as live time traffic and weather updates as well as a rear view camera and voice controls. The Premium package nets drivers a sunroof, driver memory seat settings, and an upgraded Bose audio system w/ iPod connectivity. Finally, there is he Technology package, which adds in mostly useless (in our opinion) gadgets such as adaptive cruise control, an upgraded climate control system, and adaptive headlights.

Driving the 2010 Infiniti G37 Coupe is just what you would expect given previous iterations of the G coupe. Infiniti has once again managed to perfectly blend sport and luxury, while appealing to a younger audience with the G coupes sporty looks, aggressive engine, and fun if impractical seating. Braking and handling are both precise and razor sharp, if a bit less comfortable than what you would get out of cars like the Lexus E series and Mercedes E Class, and the engine such seems to want you to constantly stay on the throttle, breaking speed limits everywhere while carving the nearest twisty road you can find (note = we don’t condone this type of behavior, but then again, we can’t stop you either!). One big surprise in this car (and previous year G37 coupes) is the seven speed auto gearbox. While we traditionally like to shift our own gears and think every sporty car should have a clutch pedal, we’ve found the seven speed to be fantastic. Up shifts are crisp, and when in manual mode the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters work amazingly, allowing full control over up and downshifts. As of early 2012, the 2010 Infiniti G37 Coupe is a relative bargain, with base pricing starting around $26,000, and low mileage Sport and Journey packaged cars with prices of around $28,500. Buyers looking for a true drivers car who want a little luxury with their horsepower should look no further than the 2010 Infiniti G37 Coupe.

The 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe is a complete overhaul from the previous generation G coupe, the G35. The 37 in the title G37 refers to what might be our favorite change, and that is the all new 3.7 liter V6 engine, increases from last years 3.5 liter drive train. With that said, Infiniti engineers weren’t content to stop at just dropping in a bigger engine and calling it a day. The entire G37 Coupe has been redesigned, borrowing elements from the revised style seen with the 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan. Improved interior materials and build quality, sportier handling, and new, more user friendly electronics welcome drivers of the 08 G37 Coupe.

But before we get to far into the new tech gadgets or stunning good looks of the 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe, lets focus on our favorite part – the drive train. As mentioned earlier, the 08 G37 gets an all new 3.7 liter V6 capable of putting down 330 horsepower and 270 ft-lbs of torque thru the standard issue (as seen in base and journey trim) five speed automatic gearbox with wheel mounted paddle shifters, or the optional 6 speed manual transmission when buyers choose the Sport 6MT package. Testing has shown the 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe, when equipped with the five speed automatic gearbox, is good for a 0-60mph time of just 5.5 seconds, with the 6 speed manual gearbox equipped 08 G37 Coupe running 0-60mph in just 5.4 seconds. Its worth noting here that the 2009 G37 coupe gets an all new seven speed auto gearbox, which we much prefer to the 08′s five speed (which is more than adequate). Infiniti and EPA estimated fuel economy numbers are 18mpg city and 2mpg highway for the auto equipped G37 coupe, while the manual model gets 1 less in the city while gaining 2 for 26mph highway.

Options and trim levels vary for the 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe, but like most Infiniti models, they are relatively easy to keep track of. We have the Base, the Journey (IE luxury), and the Sport models, with option packages including the Premium package – with options such as heated front seats, power adjustable steering wheel, an upgraded Bose stereo with an iPod interface, and driver seat memory options, the Technology package which nets you adaptive cruise control, adaptive headlights, and seat belts that can sense an impending accident and put tension on early to keep the driver firmly in place, and then of course the self explanatory Navigation package, which nets you a hard drive based navigation system with real time weather and traffic updates, in addition to 9GB of digital music storage. Finally, there is the Sports 6MT trim, which adds in (in addition to the six speed manual gearbox) 19 inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in summer tires, a sportier albeit stiffer suspension setup, sport styled seats with thigh and torso bolsters, upgraded brakes, and a limited slip rear differential.

Driving the 2008 Infiniti G37 can be a real blast, depending on what you want out of the car. On the inside, quality has taken a definite step forward with higher quality interior materials ranging from the leather upholstery and trim to the wood grain or shodo aluminum accents seen through out the cabin. While the G37 coupe is technically a 4 seater, we feel that the combination of a small rear trunk and the bench like rear seat make this essentially a 2 seater coupe with some extra rear storage with the rear seats folded down.

On the road, the 08 G37 coupe really gets to show its prowess, with a suspension and chassis setup that, while content to run day to day errands, practically begs to driver to go find a back road somewhere with a few sharp turns and twists and really wring the most out of this little coupe. Handling and braking manage to be both sharp, crisp, and luxuriously subtle at the same time, and the all new 3.7 liter power plant offers horsepower and virtually any RPM. With pricing relatively low (as 2009 saw some significant upgrades), and some 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe prices of around $22-25,000 for well optioned and relatively low mileage cars, you’d be selling yourself short to not put the G37 coupe on the short list of cars when shopping for a new vehicle.

2009 marks the first year the Infiniti G37 is available in either sedan or hard top convertible body styles, but the 2009 Infiniti G37 Coupe still remains our favorite. The near perfect blend of sport and luxury is hard to match, and with an all new all wheel drive (G37x) and a seven speed auto gearbox, the 09 G37 coupe is a real winner.

So just what makes us enjoy the 2009 Infiniti G37 coupe so much? Well, our love affair starts with this little coupe where it always does..under the hood. Powered by a potent if not overly powerful 3.7 liter 328 horsepower V6 that puts down an impressive 270 ft-lbs of torque thru the standard (and new for 09) seven speed auto gearbox. Buyers looking for a sportier driving experience can also check the options box for the sport package, which will net them the ultra rare 6MT six speed manual gearbox. While normally not a big fan of auto transmissions, the 7 speed in the G37 coupe is actually quite fun, with rev-matched down shifts and steering wheel mounted manual paddle shifters. Power makes its way to the rear wheels in all but the G37x coupe, which is all wheel drive.

While the 330ish horsepower put down by the G37 coupe isn’t overly impressive, the 2009 G37 Coupe’s 0-60mph time of 5.4 seconds is. This little coupe makes the most of what it does have. Drivers opting for the 6MT will lose .1 seconds on the 0-60 jaunt, and buyers who need the hard top convertible will run the 0-60mph closer to 6 seconds thanks to the additional weight that comes with the gear needed to fit the convertible top.

Fuel economy for the 2009 G37 coupe is decent too, especially considering how sport this coupe is. So what are the hard numbers? The 09 G37 coupe gets an EPA estimated 18mpg city and 26mpg highway, for a combined 21mpg in automatic transmission/rear wheel drive hard top trim. Choosing either the 6 speed manual or the convertible will lose you an additional 1mpg over the standard trim coupe, and opting for the all wheel drive variant – the G37x – will net you 18/20mpg respectively.

In addition to three body styles (Coupe, convertible, and sedan), the 2009 Infiniti G37 is also available in a number of trims – Base, Journey, Sport, and X (for all wheel drive). Standard base trim coupes come fairly loaded standard, with an LCD screen controlled six speaker stereo system with CD/MP3 player, an AUX jack, and satellite radio. 18 inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in summer tires, as well as keyless ignition, xenon headlights, automatic climate control, and leather upholstery all come standard. Buyers looking for more can choose the Journey trim, which will net them dual zone climate control, a six disc CD changer, and passenger power adjustable seats. The Sport 6MT finally will net you of course the six speed manual gearbox, in addition to 19 inch wheels, sportier front and rear fascias, a limited slip differential, upgraded bigger brakes, sport seating with added torso and hip bolsters, and a sport tuned (read – stiffer) suspension.

Then we have packages, ranging from the Premium package which nets you a moon roof, Bluetooth, an upgraded Bose stereo system with headrest mounted speakers (if you opt for the convertible), and iPod connectivity. The navigation package nets you, well, the navigation system, which uses the same LCD touchscreen as the standard radio, but nets you 9GB of space for digital music, real time traffic and weather updates, and voice controlled navigation.
While driving the 2009 Infiniti G37 coupe isn’t going to be for everyone, buyers looking for a sporty, youthful yet luxurious coupe with plenty of tech features, a potent engine, and a sporty ride would do well to look into the G37. When you add all this in to the price (as of writing this article -2012- the average price for a low mileage, well optioned G37 coupe is around $25-26,000), the 2009 Infiniti G37 Coupe looks like a great buy.

The 2011 Infiniti G37 coupe is still one hell of a fun car, with minor updates coming for 2011 including a sportier front fascia and a few minor changes to trim and package options. Additionally, IPL, or Infiniti Performance Line, has finally come online and released the mother of all G37′s, the 2011 Infiniti G37 IPL.

Strong performance, sporty handling, high tech options, and an affordable for what it is price point have always been strong points for the G37 coupe, and 2011 is no different. If anything, its gotten better. Starting at the heart of the beast, the 2011 Infiniti G37 gets the same powerful 3.7 liter V6 that puts down 330 horsepower and 270 ft-lbs of torque thru the standard issue seven speed automatic gearbox with manual shift paddle controls on the steering wheel and a rev-matching downshift system. Sport models come with a precise, tight shifting 6 speed manual transmission, and finally we have the GPL coupe, which gets the choice of either the 7 speed auto or 6 speed manual gearbox. Power is put down to the rear wheels in all but the G37x trim, where Infiniti’s all wheel drive system works to keep the power to all 4 wheels.

0-60mph for the 2011 Infiniti G37 coupe went by in a remarkably swift 5.6 seconds, while running the quarter mile in a hair under 14 seconds flat when equipped with the automatic gearbox and rear wheel drive. For drivers worried about that sort of thing, fuel economy was decent considering how much fun this car is, with the 2011 G37 coupe getting an EPA estimated 19mpg city and 27mpg highway with the same auto/rear wheel drive layout. Adding the six speed manual or all wheel drive both dropped fuel economy by about 1 mpg respectively.

While long known for its aggressive, sporty, and drop dead gorgeous exterior, the G37 coupe hasn’t always gotten the praise it deserves for its well layed out and usable interior. Excellent build quality, elegant yet sporty design, and sturdy materials blend together seamlessly. With that said, while the G37 coupe is supposed to be a 4 seater, its our feeling that, like any other 4 seat coupe out there, that the back seat is best used for storage or short (and we mean SHORT) trips. But again, the G37 coupe isn’t the car you buy if practicality is number one on the list. This car puts fun before function.

While trim and package options can get confusing, its a safe bet to say that, no matter what layout your 2011 G37 coupe comes in, its well optioned. 18 inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in sport tires, keyless ignition and entry, auto climate control, and a six speaker audio system all come standard. Choosing the Journey trim nets you dual zone climate control, automatic headlights, Bluetooth an iPod/USB connectivity, and heated seats. The G37x is basically the same as the Journey model, only with all 4 wheels getting the power.

Sport trim brings the option for the six speed manual gearbox on board, as well as options like a limited slip rear differential, high performance summer tires wrapped around 19 inch wheels, a sport tuned (and slightly rougher) suspension, sport seats with side and hip bolsters, and an upgraded 11 speaker Bose audio system.

Stand alone options include a hard drive based navigation system with 9gb of digital storage for music, real time traffic and weather updates, and voice controls. The Technology package adds in an upgraded climate control system, adaptive headlights, and adaptive cruise control.

Finally, we have the 2011 Infiniti G37 GPL coupe. Along with all the features found in the sport trim, the G37 GPL adds a little more horsepower by freeing up intake and exhaust flow thanks to a sportier exhaust (which features a nicely aggressive yet not to load growl to it), and adds a unique sporty front and rear fascia as well as IPL specific side skirts and cast aluminum wheels.

While not for everyone, the 2011 G37 offers drivers stunning acceleration and sharp, poised, yet not overly harsh handling. With an MSRP starting at around $31,000 for the base coupe, $32,000 for the Journey coupe, and up to a price of $40,800 for the 2011 G37 GPL coupe, this little Infiniti is well worth the money.

The Infiniti G37 Coupe is one of the most well regarded luxury coupes out there, blending sport and luxury seamlessly, and the 2010 Infiniti G37 Coupe has done nothing to change that. While the 2010 model year saw little changes … Continue reading →

The Infiniti G37 Coupe is one of the most well regarded luxury coupes out there, blending sport and luxury seamlessly, and the 2010 Infiniti G37 Coupe has done nothing to change that. While the 2010 model year saw little changes such as a slight retouch of the front bumper and grill, headlights, and rear fascia.

While the 2010 G37 coupe is stylish and luxurious, we feel its real strength lays in its understated yet powerful power train. As the name implies, all Infiniti G37′s are powered by a 3.7 liter V6 which pumps out an impressive 328 horsepower and 270 ft-lbs of torque to the rear wheels in all but the G37x (which just happens to be all wheel drive). The standard issue gearbox is a seven speed automatic transmission equipped with manual paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel, and features a smoothly effective rev-matching for downshifts. Buyers looking to spend a bit more could opt Sport package, which offers a exclusive (and hard to find) six speed manual gearbox. While the G37 coupe accelerates smoothly, it is by no means slow. In fact, the 2010 G37 Coupe runs 0-60mph in an insane 5.4 seconds. Keep in mind, this isn’t a stripped down featherweight, but rather a fully loaded, luxury car. As expected, the heavier convertible G37 runs slightly slower, going from 0-60mph in just over 6 seconds.

While not a major concern for most buyers of the G series coupes or sedans, the 2010 Infiniti G37 coupe nets an EPA estimated 18mpg city and 26mph highway when in coupe/automatic trim. Opting for either the 6 speed manual or the convertible option will lose you about 1mpg across the board.

For 2010, the Infiniti G37 is available in many different trims and body styles. You have either a sedan, coupe, or a retractable hardtop convertible for body styles, and trims range from base all the way up to the sport.

While all G37s, regardless of options get the same engine, there are a few differences in luxury and amenities between the trims. Base trim sees standard 17 inch aluminum alloy wheels with sport tires, xenon headlights, full power accessories, a six speaker audio system with CD/MP3 player and AUX input jacks, auto climate control, and keyless ignition.

Moving on up to the Journey trim adds dual zone climate control, a 6 disc CD changer, and power front adjustable seats. Additionally, check the box for the Sport 6MT trim brings performance features such as the six speed manual transmission hinted at in its name, 19 inch wheels with high performance tires (19 inch alloys come on the coupe in sport trim), a limited slip rear differential, a sportier suspension, upgraded brakes, and sport seats.

While no additional options are available on the base coupe or sedan, there are a plethora of other options that are available on upgraded models. The premium package adds rear park assist, driver memory settings, an upgraded Bose stereo system, and power tilt and telescoping steering. Additionally, the hard drive based navigation system is available as an option, which includes 9GB of space for digital music storage, voice activated controls, a rear view camera, and Bluetooth audio. Finally, there is the Technology package, which brings adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise control, and an upgraded climate control system.

Driving the 2010 Infiniti G37 is a real blast. Few other sport/luxury coupes (or sedans) manage to blend to the two as seamlessly as the G37 can. Steering is comfortable and precise, and handling manages to be both sharp and comfortable at the same time. The seven speed auto gearbox is everything it should be, allowing you to just put it in drive and go, or actually use the steering wheel mounted shifters in the event you want a bit more ‘sport’ to your ride. With an price starting around $23,500 for a base sedan, and ranging up to around $30,000 for a low mileage coupe with the sport package, the 2010 Infiniti G37 is deffinately worth the money.
